linnaealyn's xeno art

This’ll end up being a nice little timeline of my Xeno stuff, where you wont miss seeing anything new like you would with say, twitter.
May end up regretting putting some of these here in the future, as artists often feel about their old stuff lol
Expect Xeno spoilers for everything.

Earliest to latest, so that’d start with my 2019 XB1 stuff. Didn’t do much back then, honestly Xenogears was the first thing to really make me do a ton more art. A lot of XB1’s designs are so busy that the amount of details overwhelms me before I even start, so that’s primarily why I didn’t do much at all of what I otherwise would’ve back then.

^ Fixed this one up in recent years. No, Im not planning on showing v1 lol

^went with Melia’s Brave equipment for the color palette and yeah, i know, wrong monado lol
That was about it for 2019; it was late in the year when I finished the game.

2020-
Finished XB1, onto XB2, onto Xenogears, got distracted, didn’t pick it up for the rest of the year.

oh yeah, and you’ll totally be able to see all my normal, sometimes bonkers file names

^ unfinished Alvis. Went back after DE to change the necklace but never went anywhere else with it

^ surprise manga SS Link in the same file

^ “Lambert” (not the name of the character but I adopted that for him after people were getting that fact mixed up) unused XB1 char model

^ Mecha-Shulk. I love those little what-if takes on where/how the story might’ve gone had one detail been different.

Unfortunately I cant include “bluegold”, “lemon god” (lol), “Z Man”, or “XC Valek” bc they’re .sai2 files and I dont use Sai anymore and had to wipe my pc so I’d have to re-DL Sai.

2021; Finished Xenogears, so this is when that all begins and still hasn’t stopped to this day

^ for anyone interested in seeing my music box sketches before I started my tiny replica. I still haven’t finished painting the inside, but I did get a tiny angel 3D-printed for it and an electronic-light-sensor-activated thing people usually put in music cards, so that when you open the card it starts to play music. Well, after a ton of research about electronic parts and music boxes I decided to go with one of these, so that when I open the box the music box file I loaded onto it starts playing.

^ Painted this before Id finished the game, listening to Mebius’ lyrics:
“aa, anata no kodou o kikasete karada dake ni wakaru kotoba de kikasete”
“Let me listen to your beating heart Let my body hear words only it can understand”

^New Years 2021

^ Watching Resonant Arc’s podcast while playing helped me greatly in understanding things the first time around, though I really do wonder what it’d be like if I played through the whole thing with that first playthrough of utter confusion lol
Was inspired by the anima/animus, yin/yang; the hair curling around each other in a sort of yin-yang, the singular angels’ wings opposing the spin of their hair made to resemble the Merkava hologram angels’ wings which reminded me of Zeboim, the black hole and its sybolism, all put together in one piece. And of course, the flame between the two.

Initially started out as Fei and Elly, which changed partway through the sketch phase bc that’s a simple change from those two to these two early on.
This also almost became a symbolic and tragic piece in the beginning of the paint phase of Kim and Elly. “All that blood everywhere”, as Eunie puts it… but actually blood. lol
Of course, later I’d go and make a tragic piece, but literal- a straight up recreation of the scene of which we all know Im referring to.

These look great! I also want to ask if I can archive them?

Thank you so much! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::blue_heart:

Thanks! A personal archive? Because I’d rather my stuff not be reposted anywhere in public archive accounts, be it twitter, insta, etc- bc it honestly happens too much already w/o artists’ consent to the point where Im turned off to the idea of curated accounts altogether. Though I do appreciate those who actually ask the artists first.

oh yeah, before moving onto 2022, here’s a little comic I did in 2021 and some controller designs I was playing with

^ Joy-con designs, based on Noah and Mio’s flutes and the other based on N and M’s armor.

^ Pro-con based on the flutes and Mio journal design I was working on to get printed on notebooks (bc My Nintendo America didn’t offer the notebook and stickers set as a reward and people are spending $55 on places like Mercari just to get it over here)

Oh spark, wonderful stuff !
I already saw some of them on Twitter, like the one with the Christmas Tree for example, but I discovered some nice gems here ! :sparkles:

And the one with Margie and her guns is priceless lol.

Thanks! Sure, Ill share some pics of those too

Basically finished the outside, angel is loose inside currently, and I figured it’d be easier to paint on cardstock and insert them when Im done than trying to focus on all that painting while I was primarily focused on the outside. Still have to do the gold “writing” on the day/night and bottom panels. Have yet to start on the angels ceiling panel at all. Last image is darker so you can actually make out the pencil markings on the tree and pillar panels.
I believe I was last working on this an entire year ago now. Painting day after day, finding out I accidentally painted the day/night panel mirrored bc of how the Xenogears map/model viewer website displays the inside textures through the walls of the model (thus what you see being mirrored).

After finishing the painting I’ll insert the panels, affix the angel, and insert the electronic parts when I find the best place for the light sensor to be. The electronic board will be in the base, the light sensor is a short wire with the round sensor on the end, so it’ll end up somewhere on the floor beside the angel… somewhere. One thing that particularly bothers me is the door being a little wonky, more of a gap on the right than the left, but getting those small hinges attached firmly was a pain. It is made primarily of foamboard with some small square wooden dowels in the base to make sure the base is solid. Painted the inside black because too much light was coming through the foamboard for the sensor to work properly and that cut out a lot of light.

Tyty! Yeah, Margie with a stash of weaponry is hilarious. Saw the official sketches and had to do a comic of a super-sketchy-weapons-dealer-Margie.

how are you so cool

Made some designs a while back.
Needed more tank tops so I figured I’d make something I’d enjoy rather than get something plain so I made a Pyra-swimsuit-design-based tank top. Wanted to get it as a sample (since the website was offering a discount on your first sample order) to make sure it turned out right, but I needed a group of 3 samples so I threw in an ouroboros design I’d made the day before on a crop top and version 1.0 of Mio’s journal design on the only book they offered- a spiral. Unfortunately, as I was kinda expecting, I could’ve gone with size S with the tank top instead of M. Definitely a design you want to be more fitted, but M was looser than I was expecting it’d be.
I’ve found making designs like this to be a bunch of fun.

And you know those little Chinese plush dolls that are so incredibly adorable? I designed a possible Mio, though Im not sure how you’d do the ears, there are cat ear headbands made for these kind of dolls so you could go with that lol
And the piddy-paws you often see on these makes sense for Mio. Gave her the little heart nip naps and X belly button that these dolls often have. That’d be a very small term marker to embroider on a very inconvenient spot, though. Maybe you could put it on the upper body right before it joins to the head.

Time for Xenotober 2022!

^ 30. Memories

wips and messy misc pieces/sketches. The year is still going, so any wips Ill post now are ones Ive already shelved for the most part.

^ With all the pre-release XB3 talk about ouroboros going around I decided to paint “urobolus” (technically canon, but I still find it weird calling it that) so here’s the two wips, one of which I never posted anywhere.

^ Someone on twitter mentioned missing the Shulk model of the wii days and said “shulky-Shulk” was the best way to describe it somehow, which I get what they mean lol, so I did a quick portrait paint of shulky-shulk again

^ Pre-release Noah I did two days before release day. Technically finished, didn’t like it, rendered it to hell and back though for some reason. lol
Head was tilted too forward, could’ve fixed the hair and eyes before rendering but I think I just didn’t care at that point and thought I’d get some rendering practice in. Really shows how you might draw a character before you really get to know them and used to how they look bc at this point Im like, no way would I draw Noah like that nowadays.
^^^Painted that N and M right after the end of chapter 5. Gave up bc of all that armor :sob:

^ another sketch dump

^ sketch I did on top of Tanaka-san’s super rough sketch bc the artblock was OP that day.

^little gormotti Shulk in Zephyr class bc why not

^ sketch of N and the Vandham founder. Wanted to sketch the latter kind of with Fei’s features (close to how I always draw him, anyway) bc the Vandham founder looks so much like Fei and I heard that the statue was labelled as “Wong Monument” in the game’s files, which is amazing

^ overwhelmed Fei bc I was feeling that way that day and had no idea what I wanted to paint

^ And my sister’s sketches of Mio and Noah one day when she was sketching around on my drawing tablet for a change. She got the braid, but clearly she isn’t a xeno-fan bc she forgot the gormotti ears. (she still hasn’t played any more of Xenogears since those three days in a row of playing )

Yes, I mainly want to put them in a folder, so that after a long time, I can still look at them and enjoy

sorry, I have no idea how to respond to compliments like these :sweat_smile:

Kay, then that’s an automatic “sure go right on ahead” from me :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Thanks!!

ty~ I was unsure of whether or not anyone would enjoy seeing the really rough wips, so Im glad they aren’t just trash fodder.

Sameeee. Or save those I particularly like as wallpapers to my phone for later use as that and only that.
Like right now I have a Weltall piece as my phone’s wallpaper and it makes me happy every time I unlock my phone. And like, if my art can do the same for someone in their day to day life like that I’d be overjoyed. Though I can also understand if an artist doesn’t want their art distributed on other peoples’ random devices across the planet like that.

I’ll be more specific then! I’m genuinely impressed with how many creative projects you’re working on with a variety of media (digital painting, 3D modeling, fashion and cosplay!! so much) and always look forward to seeing what you’re up to. The WIPs, sketches, and process time lapses are also fascinating to watch as it all comes together. I’m really glad you joined the forum, and so glad to see these games getting so much love even years later.

aw, thanks! Though I wouldn’t quite call it cosplay, I guess it almost kinda is in a sense. haha
And Im really glad you say so. Coming into the fandom so late- some 23 years late- I just felt like I wanted to do a ton of different things with it and maybe it would help breathe new life into it, being an old internet fandom and all. It always makes me sad seeing old fandoms from the 90s die out slowly where no one is doing much of anything within the online space and you don’t hear anyone talking about it all that often anymore. Its what happened when I watched/read Rurouni Kenshin some 13 years late to the conversation. Felt like I was coming into a ghost town, having to view defunct fan sites through the wayback machine, seeing a fandom that was long grown up and scattered.

Though I was surprised to end up learning the Gears/Saga fandom is still really active on online spaces like twitter and even here- an entire forum dedicated to it- though its understandable given Monolith Soft is still going strong, pulling new fans into the extended xenoverse over the years. Fans like myself who was drawn in by the art style and overworld concept of XB1. Though I never expected XB1 would so quickly become a game I spend less time thinking about and doing fan works for, overshadowed by its pre-predecessor.

What I really didn’t expect was that it’d drive me to do so much art, though. Nothing’s ever given me this much drive in my art before; for years it was almost completely stagnated. Im just happy there’s still an active fandom to come into and share my stuff with. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

^ Started right after that first trailer showing off chain attacks. Wanted Manana because I thought she was so cute with her endlessly sparkly eyes.

^ Xenogears style Zanza. I was really trying to capture that expression he has in the wii version that DE just doesnt capture the same way, eyebrows raised, oh so superior gaze.

^ ah the slew of lazy 3/4 view portrait paints. Always a thing people fall back into when they have artblock. Was doing a face plane study and it turned into Ziggy bc of course it did.

^ My sister asked if nopon had legs like that owl picture in that one famous.. tumblr post, was it?, so I had to do a nopon version of that. lol, so silly

There we go. Up to date.

You already know how much I love that Ziggy portrait (nothing wrong with a 3/4 view!) and it’s legit endearing how much you love Fei. You can see it, it just radiates from the page, especially on the series of expressions. He is The Blorbo, Most Cherished

Someday I’ll find out why that flute has Gaignun’s lapel on it
