Hey, I’m working on something right now that requires me to have access to the Japanese in-battle voice lines from Xenosaga Episode 1. All of the equivalent English lines have been ripped by somebody on Sounds Resource, but I have yet to figure out how they did so, and I’m not certain how to do it myself. I’ve extracted all the game files using the Xenosaga Disc Tools, but I do not know how to read the actual audio files that the program outputs.
I would really prefer not to scour gameplay footage for the voice lines, so if someone more well-informed than me could let me know how the game’s audio files work I would appreciate it a lot!
I think these need to be converted from a proprietary format. It’s been a long time since I monkied with the XSI kit, if I recall there’s a conversion tool in there that works for the video and audio but it was made for a FIFA game. But I’m working on a companion kit to the II/III one that should address some of this.
The new kit should handle both the scoop of the old disc tolls and the file conversions for audio.
I won’t raw post the audio but if you have an iso file and legal copy of the game, I have verified the voice lines get extracted/converted to mp4 clips that pair with cutscenes.
Most music is a sound font.
Edit: one caveat that I tested on a US copy of the iso. Let me know if you try it on a Japanese one and get an error.
Finally got around to trying this out. I haven’t tried it on the Japanese version, but it works great for the US version! Hopefully it’ll work fine for the Japanese version, since the old extraction program did.
At the current moment, though, the program doesn’t convert the audio I’m looking for to a readable format. It converts the cutscene and overworld audio just fine, but what I’m looking for is the voice lines spoken by characters during battles (i.e. Tech Attack calls, attack/hurt grunts, etc.) Is it possible that these might be included in a future version of the program?
